SOUGHT AFTER TOP MODEL
Siri Tollerød did over 60 shows last fall. Now she's rumoured to be Karl Lagerfeld's new favourite.

- I never imagined myself working for big fashion houses like Chanel, Balenciaga, Prada and Louis Vuitton, she says.

Wanted to be a nurse

16 year old Siri is visiting Sørlandssentret shopping mall with good friends. She's browsing H&M - christmas eve is just two days away and the last presents must be bought. Suddenly a woman walks swiftly past the clothes shelves and straigt over to Siri. She asks her how tall she is.
Siri blushes. She never thought of her self as model material, and has never dreamt of the day she would be discovered. She's supposed to become a nurse.

This is more than 4 years ago today. The woman she met was Donna Ionna, originally from Kristiansand, who works for Joy Models in Milan. Little did Siri know, that this would be the start of a fantastic career, as one of the most sought after models in the world.

We finally get ahold of Siri when she's arrived New York from Paris. She's just done a job for the French magazine Numéro. And tomorrow she starts a 3 day photo shoot with Greg Kadel.

- It's very exciting and there's always something happening, Siri says, when we ask her about the life as a model.

- I meet interesting people, get to travel and see the world and learn about languages and other cultures.

The summer after Siri was discovered at the shopping mall, she travelled to Milan to get a taste of the modelling life. Siri was to be transformed from a young girl til a model, and it was rough. She cried every day, and Siri called home to Tveit (a part of her home town) outside Kristiansand.

- Where you ever in doubt that you wanted to become a model?
- Not before I started. It was tough in the beginning, when everything was new and strange. I didn't think that it would involve as much hard work and travelling as it does.

Good enough for Prada

After a summer in Milan, Siri went home to Norway. She wanted to finish high school. After her final exams, she was ready to go for it in Milan.

Last fall things took off for Siri. During the fashion weeks, she did over 60 shows, Chanel, Dior and Louis Vuitton among others.

"Siri Tollerød has allready caught the attention of many influential photographers. (...) You'll be seeing a lot more of this Nordic beauty soon", the fashion website style.com wrote, after Siri had booked a 10 page spread in Vogue Italia and a big campaign for DKNY.

And after booking Prada, style.com wrote;
"If you're good enough for Prada, you're destined for big things."
Now people are talking about that Siri has become Karl Lagerfeld, the head designer of Chanel's, new favourite.

Home sick

Siri spends most of her time in Milan and New York. When she's in Milan, she shares an aparment with ever changing model girls.

- The girls come and go, but you get a bit attached when you live so close together. All the girls usually get along, and we do become friends.

She's with Trump in New York, and has become very fond of the big city.

- Things go up and down. I miss home of course, but when I am home, I often miss New York.

Takes care of herself

Siri has previously said that eating disorders and drugs are parts of the business that she hasn't seen.

- But I am not saying that it doesn't exist. If you're looking for drugs, you can find it anywhere. I don't think there are more drugs in the modelling biz than anywhere else. Eating disorders may be more prominent with models than with others, but to stick it out in the long run, you have to bee healthy. If's a life that requires that you look after yourself. You're always on the go, and your schedule changes from day to day.

- How do you take care of your body and skin?

- I try to eat healthy and drink a lot of water, and I love fruit and vegetables. I take (a healthy Norwegian "drink" that I don't know the English name for) and try to eat most of the vitamins.I am good at clensing my skin, and love Clinique and Dermalogica products. I don't smoke, that's bad for both skin and heath.

- Do you ever treat yourself?

-In New York I order burritoes, which are delivered on the door. Benny's Burrito have fantastic Mexican food. Other than that I love icecream with lofs of goodies on top. I also love chocolate, as every other girl.

Rexaled style

Siri mostly puts on just mascara and something for the lips on regular days. She also found a clothing style that she is comfortable with.

- I try to make it simple with a touch of rock.

Siri's style is feminine, but relaxed. And she's even more relaxed when she slams the door shut and throws herself on the couch.

- That's when I take out my favourite pyjamas and my teddy bear slippers.

Siri lives in a world most others only dream of and she knows to appreciate it.

- What's the best thing about being Siri?

- That I've had this opportunity that most others only dream about. I get a unique chance to experience the fashion world from the inside. I'm very grateful for having a family that supports me, which they have done since the beginning. I also have a lot of good friends, which are great to come home to.

- And the worst?

- There's no "the worst" ..
